MSA British Rally Elite

The Programme

Within British Rallying there is currently no recognised training and development scheme for aspiring young rally drivers and co-drivers. Many sports in the United Kingdom have established coaching and development schemes that integrate sports science support to aid the development of young sub-elite sports people and to facilitate their progression to the top levels of their chosen sport. Specifically these schemes have been centred on physical fitness and the mental aspects related to sports performance.

The aim of the MSA British Rally Elite coaching programme is to introduce a scheme that is specifically tailored to the demands of rally driving and co-driving with the focus being on the six main areas detailed below. These areas are further broken down into sub-headings detailing the activities that will be undertaken by the Elite team members.

Driver and co-driver skills development • Driver and co-driver relationship development including cockpit protocol • Effective reconnaissance and note making • Pre event planning • Post event reviews and analysis • Goal setting – Event and Championship

Performance analysis and development • In car camera review • Stage times trend analysis • Driver and co-driver feedback • Technical development- effective testing • Equipment technology • Sports psychology (see separate information)

Promotion and media skills • Presentation skills • Interview techniques • Delivering a clear message
