NORTH WEST LAWN MOWER RACING ASSOCIATION

Race Report from Bentinck Miners Welfare, Notts. ~ May 8th

With Wollaton Park still fresh in the minds, the NWLMRA headed a little further north to a one-day show in aid of the Bentinck Miners Welfare. A couple of racers were absent due to prior commitments but those that turned out enjoyed a great days racing following some early-morning showers

#31 Daz Whitehead’s lap of the track
“We had been given a football pitch to race on, which is always nice. It’s good to get somewhere really flat and smooth for a change every now and then! From the start-line we had a good main straight that went into a flat-out right hander. This decreased in radius the further you got round and ended up quite a tight bend after a short stab on the brakes. Next was a very short straight, which fed into a double apex left-hander, this was another tricky corner with only one real line working in the races. This fed into a 90-degree left hander, followed immediately by a hairpin right. Again it was very tight, but this opened out into a really long right hander that could be taken flat out and sideways (even when it was dry!) This then fed back onto the main straight for another lap. The fastest laps were around 22 seconds”

Round 4 – Sunday 8th May 2005
#12 Martin Shaw brought along his new Group 2 Roller, and raced this to victory in his Points Race. Jason Whitehead drove the #4 John Deere to victory, ahead of #8 Kev Grimer in the Group 4 Points Race

In Group 3, #69 Matt Randall is starting to show some authority taking a dominant win ahead of #96 Chris Randall, #31 Daz Whitehead, #11 Sam Shaw and #44 Sheldon Webster

The Grand Prix was the last of the Championship races, with another lights-to-flag victory for Matt Randall, who covered 28 laps. 2nd place was closely fought all the way between Jason Whitehead and Chris Randall. Jason held the advantage early on, but Chris found a way past on the 14th lap, and held off Jason to take the runners-up position at the flag. Both drivers also covered 28 laps. Daz Whitehead and Sam Shaw both dropped 1 lap, while Kev Grimer dropped 2 laps. Martin Shaw covered 22 laps, while Cameron Hill dropped out after just 19 laps
