Cheshire Sixes postponed
THIS year's Cheshire Sixes competition has been postponed
because of a pitch problem - and a lack of other clubs willing
to host the event.
Wilmslow Lacrosse Club have kindly hosted the competition
for the past few years, but during the summer the Styal Road
club had a new artificial surafce laid.
The club have also had two grass picthes re-layed and were
reluctant to damage their pitches before the season starts.
However, the Wilmslow club have done a fine job hosting the
event in the past and cannot be to blame for this year's competition
not being played.
As Wilmslow club chairman Clive Perrin said: 'We've had many
a successful year hosting the event, but maybe it's time someone
else hosted the tournament.
'We've got England games on our pitches and we didn't want
our new picthes to get wrecked before the new season started.
'It's a real shame no one else has come forward and offered
their ground. They'll be a lot of disappointed players out
there - and rightly so.'
There was a proposal put forward for the tournament to be
played at Cheadle Hulme Lacrosse Club as a fundraiser.
But that plan never came to fruition and so there has now
been doubt cast as to whether the Cheshire Sixes will be played
this season at all.
'It's a bid sad unfortunately that no on else will host the
event. I'm not even sure if the tournament will be played
this year.'
