PATTERSON LEADS CHESHIRE TO VICTORY
MARTIN Patterson was Cheshire's hat-trick hero as they edged
Lancashire by a single goal in this year's Boys Under-17 Regional
Challenge match.
Greg Rowlinson scored a brace, while Tom Giddins, John Nichols
and Danny Ives were also on the mark as Cheshire fought back
from 5-4 behind at the end of the quarter to triumph 8-7.
Cheshire had taken a 3-1 first quarter lead at Manchester
Waconians Lacrosse Club, but Lancashire hit back to be level
at 3-3 at half-time.
Lancashire edged 5-4 ahead going into the final and deciding
quarter, but despite two goals for Mike Carroll and John Grubisic,
and other goals from Joe Longley, Max Owen and an own-goal,
Cheshire held on the clinch victory.
"We were lucky," conceded Cheshire chairman Bob
Patterson.
"It was an excellent game, but it was a bit of a strange
game.
"Jim Williamson played well and made some good saves,
which was important."
Lancashire manager Allan Collingwood was pleased with his
county's performance, but understandably slightly disappointed
his team had not pinched a win over their rivals.
"It was a very good match and we scored some excellent
goals, but Cheshire just managed to beat us." said Collingwood.
"That's the way it goes sometimes, but we'll be back
and want to beat them the next time we play them."
Boy's Under-17 Regional Challenge Match: Cheshire 8 Lancashire
7 (QS: 3-1, 0-2, 1-2, 4-2).
