Scotland to play U.S. in quarters
Scotland will play defending champions United States here
in ther quarter-finals of the World Championship.
Kim Chorosiewski's team triumphed 18-4 over New Zealand at
the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in their play-off match
this morning.
It was plain sailing all the way for Scotland who won both
halves 9-2, respectively, with attacker Amanda McKie on target
six times.
Valerie Houston, the oldest player at this year's competition
- still going strong at a sprightly 41 - scored four, while
Julie Rennie (2), Julie Barr (2), Jane Gardiner, Kristine
Russell, Kate Boxer and Jenny Nimmo were also on the scoresheet.
New Zealand saw Michelle Turner (2), Anne Henderson and Anna
Strand all score, but all the goals were token efforts with
Scotland always on course for a comfortable victory.
Scotland had 38 shots compared to New Zealand's nine, with
McKie named Most Valuable Player (MVP) for her starring performance
in attack.
The Czech Republic beat Germany 4-2 in today's other play-off
game with the second-half scoreless.
