England to play Wales in quarter-finals
England will play Wales in the quarter-finals of this year's
World Championship after their opponents were surprisingly
beaten by Japan.
It will be the second time England have played Wales in the
space of five days, although their second meeting will be
at a different venue now that tournament play has been switched
to the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
England defeated Wales 6-2 at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility
on Sunday morning, but at 2-1 down at half-time they made
Lois Richardson's team work hard for their victory.
"We know how Wales play and we'll be looking to improve
on our last performance against them," said Richardson.
"We are playing well at the moment and the team is playing
with more confidence.
"Wales will want to get a bit of revenge for our pool
match victory, but we're confident of victory and progressing
to the semi finals."
England were comfortable 22-0 victors over Germany in their
play-off clash, but Wales struggled to contain the pace and
clinical finishing of their Japanese opponents.
"We're looking forward to playing Wales again,"
added Richardson. "We want to get to the semi-finals,
which has always been our aim.
"Anything can happen from there on in if we perform
well!"
