England women shine in States
ENGLAND's women have won the South of the Border Tournament
in Maryland, America, the first stepping stone in their bid
to win a medal at this year's World Cup in Annapolis.
Lois Richardson's team triumphed in five of their six tour
matches, with a famous victory over top US college side Vanderbilt,
whom they beat 16-4.
The national side also defeated Longwood (8-2), Davidson (16-1),
Richmond (7-3) and North Carolina (9-7). England only lost
to Duke, 13-12 having fought back from 8-1 to nearly draw.
"It's been great practice ahead of the World Cup,"
Richardson said. "The more we test ourselves against
the best US teams, the better we are going to get."
