LACROSSE NEWS: Anderton upbeat ahead of derby clash
BOARDMAN & Eccles battled hard against Heaton Mersey,
the defending champions, in the North of England League Premier
Division at the weekend.
But despite a valiant effort, Nick Anderton’s were
beaten 15-8 by their Lancashire rivals.
American Dave Vail netted a hat-trick for the visitors and
Dave McCulloch (2), Dave Hulbert (2) and Chris Brown were
also on the scoresheet.
However, three goals apiece from Matt Florio, Chris Battersby
and Sam Dunwoodie, plus other strikes from Stephen Grace (2),
Martin Beacon (2), Dan Heighway and defender John Beadle secured
Mersey the points.
Boardman trailed 5-1, 5-2 and 11-3, but Anderton is hopeful
of a much better showing on Saturday at home to Rochdale who
are second from bottom in the Premier Division.
“We showed good signs against Mersey but they ran away
with the match in the third quarter,” conceded Anderton.
“We held our own and defensively we played well, but
I’m not sure the 15 goals we conceded reflected our
performance.
“It’s important we take the positives from our
defeat and perform against Rochdale on Saturday.
“They have had a bad start to the season and we want
to beat them. Rochdale beat us at home last season, so we
don’t want a repeat of that result.”
Anderton singled out Vail for special praise despite defeat.
