Rochdale recruit new American ace
ROCHDALE have been rewarded in their search for a new American
player.
The Bridgefold Club were rocked this season when midfielder
Greg Campbell decided to leave after only one game, little
over a fortnight after his arrival from the United States.
However, Allan Collingwood, the Rochdale chairman, has worked
hard to secure the services of George Laflave, an attacker
from Lyndhurst College in New York.
"I think George will be a real asset for the team,"
said Collingwood, whose side host Manchester Waconians in
the North of England League Premier Division (tomorrow).
"I've spoken to George and he is keen to play for us.
Greg was not happy and went home, so it was important we found
a replacement."
Laflave is expected to have a key role at Rochdale, coaching
the club's youngsters as well as trying to help the first
team battle their way off the foot of the Premier Division
after three straight defeats.
Stockport, the leaders and last season's Senior Flags winners,
visit Brooklands Hulmeians at Georges Road hoping to extend
their three-game unbeaten run.
The Beech Road boys are still without England midfielder
David Bryant, though, who is absent with a broken thumb.
Heaton Mersey, the defending champions, face struggling Wilmslow
at Styal Road. Nick Gilmore's team are fourth and need a victory
to maintain the pressure on the leading trio.
Elsewhere, former double winners Cheadle entertain Timperley,
while Boardman & Eccles clash with Mellor, the 2001 league
winners.
