Boardman & Eccles Lodge Appeal
Boardman & Eccles have lodged an appeal to the North
of England League committee after all three of their teams
were docked two points each for breaching a long-standing
bye-law concerning ‘attending to official correspondence.'
The Welbeck Road club, who feel harshly treated by the decision,
are confident their appeal will result in all points being
re-instated.
"I have received an appeal from Boardman and they do
have some very compelling reasons for their error," admitted
John Partt, the North of England League secretary. "Personally
I am very sympathetic to the nature of their appeal and as
a committee we will meet on 5 February to decide whether to
take any action."
Boardman were fined a standard £10 for not attending
a mandatory North of England League meeting - attended by
all clubs monthly - and it is believed that because they offered
no explanation for their none attendance and didn't pay the
fine, the penalty was doubled and a two-point penalty deduction
was enforced on all of their teams.
However, Nick Anderton, the Boardman captain, speculated:
"I was told at the club we might be getting our points
back, which would be a great relief if it happens. I can't
understand what happened but I've been told some of the reasons
why we broke the rules and I hope they are enough to sway
the committee's decision."
Indeed, and Anderton is looking for his team to remain focused
ahead of their clash at home to Manchester Waconians in the
Premier Division on Saturday. The Salford side have struggled
to find their feet in the top flight this season, but their
form can certainly be saved by some welcome wins.
However, Anderton's might be a bit rusty after their weekend
clash with Mellor, the 2001-2002 league champions, was postponed
because of a water-logged pitch. Anderton knows his players
will have to perform well to beat Wacs who hovering in the
top half of the table.
