Pelletier key to Mellor's title aspirations
WHILE Alex Pelletier remains in such excellent goal scoring
form Mellor believe themselves capable of becoming North of
England League premier division champions for the first time
since 2001.
Pelletier heads home to America for Christmas today (Monday)
but fortunately for Mellor he’ll be back for their crunch
meeting with title rivals Cheadle on January 8.
The 22-year-old former graduate of Quinnpiac University in
Connecticut scored eight times in the Longhurst Lane side’s
18-14 win over Timperley.
He now has 47 goals in only nine appearances and goalkeeping
team mate Ben McAllister describes him as “the best
close finisher in the league.”
Mellor are now just one point behind the leaders Stockport
whose match at Wilmslow, along with the other fixtures, was
washed out by heavy rain.
“I think we’re all going to enjoy the break and
then we’ll be ready for Cheadle,” says Pelletier.
“However, we can’t afford to be as sloppy against
them and Stockport as we were at the start of the third quarter
against Timperley.
“We have to stay switched on for the whole game. However,
this team will stick it out to get the result, even if we
are playing badly.
“I’m really enjoying my lacrosse with Mellor.
I had four years playing it at College in the States and didn’t
want to stop taking it seriously when I came to England.
“Mellor are my team now and hopefully I can help them
to win some honours.”
Daniel Hodgson chipped in with five goals while Andy Etherington
and Scott James scored two apiece.
Timperley reduced their 14-6 interval deficit to 17-11 after
the third quarter but had too much ground to make up at the
end.
