Autumn Under-19 Floodlit League Conference A
STOCKPORT began the defence of their Autumn Under-19 Floodlit
League Conference A title in fine fashion with a spirited
9-6 triumph over Cheadle, their arch-rivals, at Timperley
Lacrosse Club. The Beech Road side swept the board last season
with a treble of titles at Under-19 level and are confident
of repeating that memorable success again this term under
the expert guidance of experienced coaches Ravi Sitlani and
Simon Rowlinson. Cheadle fought back having trailed 8-3, but
Stockport held their nerve to deservedly take the points.
Timperley turned on the style to defeat Poynton 12-3 to stay
top of the table, while Manchester Waconians lead Conference
B on goal difference after their 12-2 victory over former
leaders Heaton Mersey.
Mellor were also victorious in Conference B, proving too
strong for Stopfordians as they muscled their way to an impressive
12-1 win.
- Stockport won the Under-14s Six-a-side Boys Tournament
at Wilmslow Lacrosse Club following a 6-4 triumph over Manchester
Waconians whom they defeated 3-1 in the group stages of the
competition. Stockport last won the title in 2000-2001 season
and before that during the 1994-1995 season. It was sweet
success for the talented youngsters who had Greg Rowlinson
(4) and Adrian Wright (2) to thank for their winning goals
in an action-packed final, which they led 3-2 at half-time.
Delighted Stockport coach Ravi Sitlani said: "Everyone
played well, it was a real team effort. James Williamson was
outstanding in goal and we showed a lot of strength all over
the field. Our junior section is looking very strong at the
minute."
