LACROSSE BRITISH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT WILMSLOW
The British National Championships which involves men’s
lacrosse teams from the home territorials is taking place
at Wilmslow Lacrosse Club over the May Day bank holiday weekend.
A total of eight teams representing Cheshire, English Universities,
England U19s, Lancashire, Scotland, South, Wales and Yorkshire
will compete Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th May for the Nick
Kehoe Trophy.
On Saturday the action commences with the first face-off
at 11.00am with each team playing three games of 15 minute
halves in two separate conferences.
The results from Saturday will lead to the preliminary play-offs
on Sunday commencing at 10.30am with games of two 20 minute
halves and going into golden goal if necessary to pick the
final places for the play-offs after lunch. The competition
will culminate with the championship final at approximately
3.00pm between the two top teams.
This popular tournament will see some highly competitive
lacrosse and there will also be a display during the Sunday
interval from Poynton Commodores Drum and Bugle Corps. The
tournament is being used as part of the preparation for the
England U19s squad who are competing in the World Championships
this July in Baltimore, USA.
The venue is Wilmslow Lacrosse Club, Styal Road, Styal, opposite
the entrance to Quarry Bank Mill and there will be refreshments
available. Entrance for spectators is £2 per day, £1
for U16s and is a superb opportunity to see some of the top
players in the country showing why the sport is often called
the “fastest game on two feet”.
