The British National Championships which involves men’s lacrosse teams from the home territorials is taking place at Wilmslow Lacrosse Club over the May Day bank holiday weekend.

A total of eight teams representing Cheshire, English Universities, England U19s, Lancashire, Scotland, South, Wales and Yorkshire will compete Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th May for the Nick Kehoe Trophy.

On Saturday the action commences with the first face-off at 11.00am with each team playing three games of 15 minute halves in two separate conferences.

The results from Saturday will lead to the preliminary play-offs on Sunday commencing at 10.30am with games of two 20 minute halves and going into golden goal if necessary to pick the final places for the play-offs after lunch. The competition will culminate with the championship final at approximately 3.00pm between the two top teams.

This popular tournament will see some highly competitive lacrosse and there will also be a display during the Sunday interval from Poynton Commodores Drum and Bugle Corps. The tournament is being used as part of the preparation for the England U19s squad who are competing in the World Championships this July in Baltimore, USA.

The venue is Wilmslow Lacrosse Club, Styal Road, Styal, opposite the entrance to Quarry Bank Mill and there will be refreshments available. Entrance for spectators is £2 per day, £1 for U16s and is a superb opportunity to see some of the top players in the country showing why the sport is often called the “fastest game on two feet”.
