Norwich Knights win English Division 1 and promotion
Following matches last weekend, the Champions of the English
Korfball Association (EKA) First Division are now known.
Congratulations to Norwich Knights who are now unable to be
caught at the top of the EKA National League Division One.
They are the Champions for the 2007/8 season and will gain
the automatic promotion place into the EKA National League
Premier Division for the 2008/9 season.
The 3 teams below them in the Division (Kingfisher on 18
points, West London Wildcats on 18 points and Cambridge Tigers
on 17 points) will now fight it out to gain the 2nd place
spot and the chance to playoff against the 7th placed team
in the Premier Division.
The playoff matches will take place on Sunday 27th April
2008 at Royal Russell School in Croydon. These are on the
same day, and at the same location as the EKA Cup Semi-finals,
Finals and 3rd/4th place match.
The National League and Cup trophies will be presented to
the winning teams after the Cup Final, in front of what is
hoped will be a large turn out of spectators. The recent England
International Matches against Flanders at Royal Russell showed
what a great atmosphere can be created there, and the aim
is to reproduce this for the 27th April.
Sunday 20th April will see Tornadoes (Kent) and Highbury
(London) play each other in the first round playoff, for entry
to the EKA South Eastern Regional Division 2008/9. The winner
of that match will go on to play either Supernova or North
Downs on the 27th April for the right to play in the South
East Regional Division 2008/9.
The Winner of the Premier Division and the Reserve Division
will come down to the last match of the season, if both top
teams win their remaining match. If Nomads beat Invicta on
the 30th April, then their last match against Croydon on 6th
April will decide which of those two teams go into the playoff
to maintain their Premiership Status.
