British Korfball Association Inter-Area Finals Results

The British Korfball Association Inter Area Finals were held on May 20th in Croydon, London.
Five different age group finals were being contested in this end of season finale for the Area Representative Squads.
The Under 19 age group started the day, bringing with them some loud supporters. Both the Kent and the London sides contained a number of England players, and this showed in the standard of play. After a tightly fought 60 minutes, the Kent side edged out 11-9 winners. (Referee = Barry Dibble)

Next up were the Under 13 finalists. These young players showed considerable skill and determination. The match was even tighter than the previous age group final, going right to the wire but it was the young Kent side who pulled off a 4-3 win over their London counterparts. (Referee = David Bond)

The Senior teams next took to the pitch. The newly formed East Midlands Korfball Association took on London and District Korfball Association, in what many saw as a rematch of last year's final. The match was tense, and the first half was very low scoring - only 3-2 at half time (to London). The goals started to drop more in the 2nd half though, and East Midlands pushed last year's champions and overtook them to take the lead. London couldn't get the ball in the basket, and so it was that East Midlands ran out 12-9 winners. (Referee = Steve Jones)

The youngest age group final of the day was the Under 11s. Kent showed their strength in this age group, before they even stepped on the pitch, as both their A and B teams had made it through the qualifying tournament. The young players worked hard throughout the match, and the standard was extremely high. Kent A came away with the points though, winning 16-4. (Referee = Lol More)

The last game of the day was the long awaited Under 16 match. As with the u19 final, both the Kent and London sides contained a number of England u16 players. The teams played some good Korfball, passing and moving well. Kent were the stronger side though, and won the match 7-12 to give Kent 100% record in the finals that they were involved in. (Referee = Paul Jeanes)

Well done to all the players who took part, their coaches, managers and supporters.

Also, a big thank you to Frank Sieber who works tirelessly for the English and British Korfball Association to ensure that events such as these are so sucessful.
