Launch of the English Korfball Association
The British Korfball Association has announced that following
the General Meeting held on 2 July 2006 and the excellent
support from British korfballers, the English Korfball Association
(EKA) came into existence on 1 September 2006.
The formation of the Association, together with the existing
Associations for Scotland and Wales, will, following discussions
with the International Korfball Federation (IKF), enable the
separate countries of England, Scotland and Wales (with Northern
Ireland in the future) to apply to become IKF members in their
own right.
England will compete in the 2007 World Championships, which
Great Britain had previously qualified for, and it is hoped
that Wales and Scotland will be able to join them in future
world and European tournaments.
To mark the formation of the new EKA, a new web site has
been launched www.englandkorfball.co.uk and this went live
on the first day of the new Association. A second web site
“Get Mixed” (www.getmixed.co.uk) was launched
on 31 August to assist with the development of the sport with
the UK. Anyone who does not currently play korfball and would
be interested in playing, or finding out more about the sport,
should look at Get Mixed, which features photos, video clips
and information about how to find your nearest club.
