The first full weekend of the National League saw defending
champions Mitcham only narrowly squeeze past a fast-improving
Kwiek team from Kent, while last year’s runners-up Invicta
Sharks (also from Kent) were involved in an even tighter match
with Epsom-based Nomads, who had only avoided relegation on
the last day of last season.
Trojans, based in Croydon, who finished level on points with
Invicta last year but had placed higher than them in the recent
Europa Shield tournament, looked impressive in their victory
over Nottingham, while Kent’s third representative,
Kingfisher, look capable of bucking the trend of newly-promoted
teams struggling, by claiming a draw against South London’s
Bec.
The only two first division matches were two East Anglian
derbies, with honours even between Norwich and Cambridge.
