Great Britain rise in korfball world rankings
The recent fifth place at the European Korfball Championships
has seen Great Britain rise from eighth to sixth place in
the world rankings.
The team have deserved this improvement, after the rebuilt
side only missed out on qualification for the tournament semi-finals
on goal difference, and then overcame a five goal deficit
in the last 20 minutes to defeat Catalonia 14-13 in their
final playoff match. Catalonia themselves have risen to ninth
place, and are close to catching Portugal who did not qualify
for the European Championships. Germany, who lost the bronze
medal playoff in golden goal extra time, have risen from fourth
to third.
Australia could move back above Great Britain in July with
a good performance in the Asia-Oceania Korfball Championships
in Hong Kong, so the British players will be keeping their
fingers crossed that this does not happen.
