begins on 27 August, 2008 in Courcheval, FRA. It is the first
of eight qualifying events leading up to the SBS ISU Junior
Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final to be held in Goyang City,
Korea on 10-14 December, 2008.

The ISU Speed Skating Championship season concluded on Sunday
with the ISU World Single Distance Championships, where the
best skaters of the world pulled out their last good race
of the season in pursuit of the distance World titles.

(CAN)
The World Cup season wrapped up this weekend on the fast
ice of Calgary (CAN) with the ninth and final Essent ISU World
Cup Speed Skating event. It was an exciting weekend, with
2 World Records, 3 track records, 27 national records and
122 personal bests.

The Ladies were the last to determine their Champions. Team
USA swept the podium with Caroline Zhang, Mirai Nagasu and
Ashley Wagner.

There were 52 Ladies entered, and the draw was done according
to the ISU World standings.

Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev of Russia defended their
lead while Emily Samuelson/Evan Bates (USA) moved up from
fourth to second. Grethe Grünberg/Kristian Rand of Estonia
slipped from second to third.

The competition kicked off with the Men’s Short Program.
The 45 skaters were divided into two groups (“skating
earlier group” and “skating later group”)
with 22 and 23 competitors respectively.
