ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2008 / 2009

The 12th season of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating begins on 27 August, 2008 in Courcheval, FRA. It is the first of eight qualifying events leading up to the SBS ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final to be held in Goyang City, Korea on 10-14 December, 2008. The complete program of events is as follows:

August 27 - 31, 2008 Courchevel (FRA)
September 3 - 7, 2008 Merano (ITA)
September 10 - 14, 2008 Mexico City (MEX) *
September 17 - 21, 2008 Ostrava (CZE) *
September 24 - 28, 2008 Madrid (ESP)
October 1 - 5, 2008 Gomel (BLR) *
October 8 - 12, 2008 Cape Town (RSA)
October 15-18, 2008 Sheffield (GBR) *
December 10 - 14, 2008 SBS ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final - Goyang City (KOR)

Approximately 400 skaters representing at least 35 countries in Europe, Asia, the Americas, Oceania and South Africa are expected to participate in the series.
Many top skaters have begun their international careers in the Junior Grand Prix. A recent example is Mao Asada (JPN), who became the 2004/2005 Junior Grand Prix Champion and subsequently performed highly at senior level including topping the World Figure Skating Championships 2008 earlier this year in the ladies’ event.
Each skater or couple may compete in up to two of the qualifying events. Skaters earn points for their final ranking position and the top eight ladies, men, pairs and ice dance couples will qualify for the SBS ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final.
The total prize money for the Junior Grand Prix events and Final is $285,000 USD.
