The British Horse Society launch Bedfordshire on Horseback
The British Horse Society has launched a new publication
Bedfordshire and the Chiltern Hills on Horseback. The pack
details 13 trails in the Bedfordshire area.
While primarily aimed at horse riders, the routes are also
suitable for off-road cyclists and walkers. Contained within
the pack is a whole host of key local information, including
places to stay and details of veterinary practices in the
area.
The routes featured were researched by a team of BHS volunteers,
led by BHS Bedfordshire County Chairman Ann Kennedy. Ann said:
“The project has been fun, though everyone involved
has put in a great deal of hard work. I hope that riders will
see that Bedfordshire is a great place to ride.”
The publication was produced with funding from Bedfordshire
County Council and the Chiltern Hills Areas of Natural Beauty
(AONB) Sustainable Development Fund.
BHS Director of Access, Safety and Welfare, Mark Weston said:
“The Society is very grateful to Bedfordshire County
Council and the Chiltern Hills AONB Sustainable Development
Fund for the support that they have given this project.
“It is a positive step for equestrian access that authorities
are willing to support projects such as this, which identify
much needed access to safe riding for equestrians.
“The project represents best value as it benefits other
user groups such as walkers and cyclists, and will assist
in boosting the local economy through equine tourism.”
The launch of Bedfordshire and the Chiltern Hills on Horseback
falls during Access Week, an annual BHS campaign to highlight
the need for safer, more plentiful off road riding for equestrians.
