British Riding Clubs’ Scottish Extravaganza is great
success
Scotland’s inaugural Equine Extravaganza proved a
huge success with more than 1,000 people attending over two
days.
The event, organised by British Riding Clubs, was held at
the new Scottish National Equestrian Centre. Both days were
packed full of fun and educational demonstrations, lectures
and courses – all for free.
Sam Turpitt, BRC secretary for Northern Scotland said: “We
really felt that both days were a great success. Hopefully
those who attended saw something that they had not seen before
or learned something from the weekend.”
Saturday’s main arena events kicked off the weekend
with a display by the Scottish Vaulting group. This was followed
by insights from Jo Barry into Dressage to Music, and a demonstration
from the Horseball team of this upcoming sport.
The afternoon saw a demonstration on how to retrain racehorses,
followed by Kay Hastilow who explained the principles of saddle
fitting. Spectators were invited to become involved with Gordon
Haliday’s course building demo, which was then ridden
by Scotland’s leading lady, Sandra Low Mitchell.
On Sunday visitors enjoy the BHS TREC demo, the Arena Event
course building, and Les Smith’s talk Arena Eventing.
Riders such as Fiona Muirhead of British Eventing also featured
and the day ended with the requirements for Style Jumping
and Riding Test presented by Master Judges Donald Kear and
Margot Tiffany.
Behind the arena action there were workshops on horse welfare,
as well as courses on equine specific first aid and child
protection. Approximately 15 trade stands also offered visitors
information and advice on subjects such as healthcare, feeding,
saddlery, and transport
