The BHS welcomes Princess Royal for National Riding Festival
AGM
The British Horse Society welcomed HRH The Princess Royal
to its headquarters for the AGM of the Petplan National Riding
Festival.
The Princess Royal is President of the Petplan National Riding
Festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
Founded in 1998, the Festival encourages new and lapsed riders
to take up the reins and start riding.
Over the last 10 years the Festival has helped 32,000 people
into the saddle for the first time. In 2007 2,500 people attended
Festival Open Days around the UK and attracted more than 1,200
new riders to take up the sport as a result.
Jane Holderness Roddam, Chairman of the Petplan National
Riding Festival, said: “We were thrilled that our President,
HRH Princess Royal, attended our AGM in celebration of the
Festival’s tenth anniversary and spoke so positively
about our progress to date as well as future plans.
“It was particularly encouraging to see so many supporting
organisations working together to achieve the objective of
bringing equestrianism to a wider and more diverse audience.”
Patrick Print FBHS, Chairman of The British Horse Society
- a supporter of the campaign, said: “It was an honour
to host the Petplan National Riding Festival AGM and we were
delighted that HRH The Princess Royal agreed to attend.
“The Petplan National Riding Festival events are an
ideal way of encouraging new clients to experience riding
for the first time and to inspire those who have not ridden
for a while to get back in the saddle.”
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Festival there are
nine Open Days planned throughout Britain - and all are very
welcome! More information can be found on the National Riding
Festival website, www.nationalridingfestival.co.uk.
There will be many riding related events and activities at
the Open Days, including pony club games and equestrian vaulting.
If real horses are too daunting, Trigger the mechanical cantering
horse, will also be available to ride!
Visitors can be assured of the highest standards of safety
and instruction as all the Open Days are to be held at centres
approved by The British Horse Society.
“At the BHS we’re here to help you find somewhere
to learn safely and effectively where you can be sure that
all necessary standards have been met,” said Chris Doran,
BHS Approvals Senior Executive.
