Nations come together for the prestigious BHS TREC Championships of Great Britain

The BHS TREC Championships of Great Britain will be held on 15-17 August at Bakewell Showground.

With record-breaking entry levels there will be plenty of nail-biting action for spectators to enjoy as the England team vies to retain the Nations Cup for another year.

The event will also be used as the selection trial for the last two senior places on the Great Britain squad in the World TREC Championships.

The event gets underway on Friday 15 August with vetting of the horses and ponies, course walking, rider briefings and the Opening Ceremony and the Parade of Riders at 7pm in the main ring.

Saturday 16 August will see an early start for the exciting and challenging POR (orienteering) phase which is set amid striking views of green hills, valleys, dales and woods. Riders will have their navigation skills thoroughly tested in locating the correct route and maintaining set speeds.

Hilary Stephens, POR course designer and local organiser said: “The winner of the POR at every level will be a worthy Champion, and they are sure to appreciate the delights of the Peak District at its glorious best. We are indebted to the landowners who have made these routes possible”.

The event features competition at Levels 2, 3 and 4 and offers classes for Individuals, Pairs and Teams as well as the annual Nations Cup contest when teams from England, Scotland and Wales go head-to-head.

Bakewell Showground is positioned beside the River Wye and is only five minutes walk from Bakewell town centre. Spectator entry is free, with Sunday the recommended day to visit as it features the riding skills phases of Control of Paces and an innovative PTV obstacle course, which provide great viewing.

Helen Owens, Senior Executive Competitions said: “We are really excited about staging this Championships at Bakewell and have received enormous support from local landowners, businesses and individuals and I’m thrilled at our record-breaking entry. We thank the White Horse TREC Group for their support - the event looks set to be truly memorable”.
