A Winter Wonderland for the BRC Winter Championships

A Winter Wonderland for the BRC Winter Championships A blanket of crisp white snow was an appropriate backdrop for the finals of the British Riding Clubs Novice Indoor Show Jumping and newly introduced Winter Dressage Championships on 5 and 6 April.

The cold, however, didn’t discourage the teams and competitors travelled from all over the UK to Hartpury College, Gloucestershire for the event generously sponsored by Natural Animal Feeds. Some competitors even camped in the snow!

Tracey Lloyd, Sponsorship Manager for NAF, said: "The Indoor show jumping was as exciting and competitive as ever, and, while all the tension was going on indoors, there was a much calmer atmosphere out in the large outdoor arena where the first ever British Riding Clubs Winter Dressage Championship was being held.

“It may have been calm, but the level of competition was high, which was clearly reflected in the results. Overall the Championships were a huge success and I think all of us, competitors, sponsors and staff included, had a hugely enjoyable weekend."

Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championships

The Senior Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championship title went to Rochdale and District RC, despite a fall for one of their team in the first round. It was a close call between Rochdale and Charville, as both teams came through the first two rounds with clean sheets. However, Rochdale clinched it in the jump off, scoring a perfect clear round from all four team members, Stacey Holden (Mouse); Kate Millington (Wizard of Oz); Jessica Thompson (Nitta); and Emily Johnston (Dragonwick Delilah Gery Elm).

On Sunday it was the juniors’ turn. The title for the Junior Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championships went to Nantwich RC Flyers, securing it with two fantastic clear rounds. As they were the only team to achieve this, a jump off was not required. Their team members were: Peter Hatton (Countrywide Dream); Laura Holman (Time Bomb); Rebecca Holman (Amman Valley Freckles) and Georgia Ellwood (Magic Dawn).

Winter Dressage Championships

The judges for the Winter Dressage were Rebecca Trower (Preliminary 12) and Jennie Loriston-Clarke (Novice 27). Both judges commented that there were some really super tests and Jennie Loriston-Clarke was particularly impressed with the standard of riding on both days.

Saturday saw the Senior Winter Dressage Championships title go to New Forest Pony Enthusiasts. The winning team members were: Caroline Saker (Wayland Loganberry); Sophie Albery (Brookshill Beethoven); Sally Anne Pierson (Chester) and Amanda Pidgley (Longcopse Elton). Caroline also went on to win the overall Individual Championship title.

On Sunday Frampton Family became the Junior Winter Dressage Champions. Their team members were: Hannah Merrett (Rialton Monarch); Jamie Carter (Samira); Victoria Withers (Wrayton Jestor) and Francesca Pearce (Seamus). Jamie also went on to be the joint winner of the Individual Championship title for the Preliminary 12 test.

The Overall Individual Senior Winter Dressage Champion was Caroline Saker on Wayland Loganberry from New Forest Pony Enthusiasts RC, and the Overall Individual Junior Winter Dressage Champion was Amy Thomson on Super Snoop from Riders 2000 RC (Cardiff).
