BHS TREC training opportunities for riders in South West Wales

In celebration of the on-going development of BHS TREC, BHS South West Wales regional committee is to hold a number of training events during November.

The South West Wales regional committee of The British Horse Society have been instrumental in developing the sport in their area. Resulting in the Chevron BHS TREC Welsh Championships held in Pembrokeshire during 2007, as well as a number of other TREC competitions over the last two years.

The British Horse Society introduced TREC to the UK in 1998 and is the UK governing body for the sport.

TREC events are split into three sections, orienteering on horse back along a pre-set route, a control of paces phase and a timed obstacle course. The sport aims to encourage the development of skills suited to safe riding and to encourage riders to build a good relationship with their horse or pony.

Sue Enfield from Amroth, Chairman of the BHS South West Wales regional committee said, "We are always hoping to encourage new riders to the sport. It is suitable for all ages and all types of horses and ponies, the crucial test being that of the relationship between horse and rider."
