Alice and Steph triumph in Puffa-sponsored BHS Equitation
Competition
The final of The British Horse Society's Equitation Competition,
sponsored by Puffa, took place at Warwickshire College, Moreton
Morrell on 10 April 2007.
Alice Dymond-Andrews from Pippin Equestrian Ltd in Dorset
took the 13 and under title. The 17 and under category was
won by Steph Ryder of Newton Hall Equitation Centre in Suffolk.
Around 40 youngsters took part, competing for the title of
Puffa and The British Horse Society Equitation Competition
Champion.
The competition, which encourages non-horse owners to ride
and compete, took place in a series of regional qualifiers
at BHS Approved Riding Centres across the UK.
Rossie Theobald, winning instructor at Newton Hall Equitation
Centre, said: "It is a fantastic competition for bringing
on less experienced riders who don't have their own ponies.
More than 50 percent of our riders who have competed in the
Championships over the years now have their own ponies and
are competing successfully."
Helen Barton-Smith, winning instructor at Pippin Equestrian
Ltd, said: "This is the first time we have taken part
in this competition, and it has been really well received
by the children who competed. It's great to have a competition
for young riders who don't usually have the opportunity to
compete."
Neil Farrar, Managing Director of Puffa, said: "Puffa
are delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile competition.
There are many talented young riders who don't have their
own horse and it is so important that they are given the opportunity
to compete."
Thanks to the generous sponsorship by Puffa, there were numerous
prizes given out, including training vouchers, trophies and
rosettes. Puffa also supplied clothing for the winners, instructors
and competitors up to 10th place. In addition, saddlery vouchers
generously donated by the Worshipful Company of Saddlers were
awarded to the establishments of the winning competitors.
Each competitor who qualified for the final received a certificate
and medal.
