BHSS Access Officer Pat Somerville joins the Board of Directors
of the Scottish Rights of Way and Access Society
Pat Somerville, Access Officer for The British Horse Society
Scotland (BHSS), has joined the Board of Directors of the
Scottish Rights of Way and Access Society (ScotWays).
ScotWays is an independent body that, for the last 160 years,
has worked to safeguard the public's rights of access to countryside.
With the coming into force of the Land Reform (Scotland)
Act 2003, the organisation is busier than ever dealing with
new issues that have arisen as a result of the new legal framework,
similar in some areas to the work that Pat does within the
BHSS.
George Menzies, Chairman of ScotWays, said: "Our Directors
are delighted that Pat has agreed to join the Board and provide
valuable equestrian expertise. It is particularly important
that we are able to tap-in to her knowledge at a time when
the access legislation is bedding-in and so many issues are
arising on various user fronts including mixed use of paths."
Pat Somerville said: "It is an honour for me to be
asked to join the Board. I have tremendous respect for the
work that ScotWays has achieved over the years and I hope
that I can add value to that with my knowledge of equestrian
access and its issues.
"The work with ScotWays will complement the work I
do as a Director of the Paths for All Partnership. All three
organisations work closely together".
