Sixty children saddle up for success
Sixty children will head to Warwickshire next week to battle
it out in the final stages of The British Horse Society Equitation
Competition.
Tuesday 31 May will see 60 children competing in The BHS's
Equitation Competition, at Warwickshire College. The children,
all riding school clients who do not own their own pony, will
travel from across the UK, after securing their place at a
regional qualifier.
Accompanied by their instructors, they will be competing
on riding school ponies in a short dressage test and over
a show jumping course. Each competitor will also sit a half
hour theory test containing multiple-choice questions based
on horse care and welfare.
Qualifiers are held at BHS Approved Riding Establishments
across the country. Competitors can also enter from any licensed
riding school, and there are two age groups for the competition
- 13 years and under and 17 years and under.
The Society's Chairman Patrick Print will be presenting the
awards at the Final, which will include a commemorative medallion
for every competitor and rosettes to tenth place. The overall
winner of each age group will receive a sash and prizes, including
training vouchers, plus awards for their instructors.
This year The Worshipful Company of Saddlers has generously
provided valuable Prize Vouchers for the centres where the
overall winning champions come from in each age group.
BHS Chairman Patrick Print said: "I am looking forward
to meeting all the competitors and presenting prizes, in what
is truly a unique competition. The BHS is passionate about
opening riding up to as many people as possible, and this
competition is a brilliant way of letting children who do
not have their own ponies take part in a national event."
Reaching children who do not own a pony, this unique competition
held at BHS Approved riding schools and licensed yards throughout
the country and overseas, is currently seeking sponsorship
to ensure its continuation. Please contact Chris Doran, 01926
