The BHS and the British Show Pony Society join forces to
introduce new qualifications for 2006
The British Horse Society is working alongside the British
Show Pony Society to introduce new qualifications for show
grooms and trainers including a new Approval scheme exclusively
for showing yards.
Three new levels of BHS qualification are to be available
from 2006, with pilot days and standard-setting workshops
intended for October this year.
Mrs Penny Hollings, an area committee member of the BSPS,
originally brought the idea to the attention of the BHS.
Mrs Hollings believed there was a "gap in the BHS system"
as there was no cross-over into the showing sector.
"The BHS has been very enthusiastic and I am thrilled
by the positive response. There is so much to be gained from
this by trainers and anyone with an interest in showing,"
she said.
The first new qualification of Accredited Show Groom will
incorporate the current Stage 3 Horse Knowledge and Care exam,
incorporating unique show groom modules.
Assistant Show Trainer is the second new qualification including
modules on show training and riding. The highest qualification
of Accredited Show Trainer will be awarded to those who successfully
pass the previous examinations and are consistently training
and showing at National level.
A new category of BHS Approval - Approved Showing Yard -
is also being introduced for 2006. To gain the new status
of Approval, the yard must fulfil all the standard criteria
along with additional specialist showing requirements.
It is hoped the new qualifications and Approval scheme will
offer valuable training in all aspects of preparing the horse
for the show ring.
