Spanish dressage star Rafael wows the crowd at BHS Convention
International dressage rider Rafael Soto Andrade captivated
the audience at the recent British Horse Society Instructors’
Convention - held at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire.
Over two days, Rafael worked with six riders to improve their
riding and the performance of their horses. Starting at Novice
level, and advancing through the stages from Elementary, Medium,
Advanced Medium, Prix St George and finally Grand Prix, Rafael
brought fresh ideas and approaches to the way of training
and riding horses.
More than 700 people attended the Convention. Some were there
to learn new ideas and ways of teaching, whilst others simply
wanted the opportunity to see a famous dressage master at
work.
The six riders came away with renewed energy and enthusiasm
for their sport, and when asked what she had learnt from the
Convention BHS Assistant Instructor Marcia Cundy, who rode
Gi-Gi in the Medium level demonstration, said: “How
long have you got? I’ve learnt so much!”
Rafael Soto, who gave an inspirational and enthusiastic performance,
said: “I have had a great experience at this Convention.
I have seen a wide-range of horses and riders, and hope I
have been able to help these people and those watching over
the two days.”
BHS Chairman Patrick Print added: The British Horse Society
is extremely grateful to Rafael for travelling over from Spain
to share his knowledge with us. This has been a very enjoyable
Convention, and we hope to see him back in the UK soon.”
The BHS Training department organises two national Conventions
a year, with the aim of sharing the knowledge and experience
of top riders with the rest of the equestrian community. The
next Convention will see top show jumper Tim Stockdale in
action, and will be held during October in the East of England.
