Record entry for The Wynnstay Farmers British Horse Society
(BHS) TREC Welsh Championships 2004
The British Horse Society’s BHS TREC Welsh Championships
will take place this weekend (12th & 13th June) and with
over 90 competitors signed up for the two days this will be
the largest ever entry in a Championship competition in the
UK.
Competitors from as far away as Argyll in Scotland, Kent
and Somerset will make the journey to Oswestry, on the Welsh/Shropshire
border, for an action packed two days.
Saturday will see the POR (the Parcours d’Orientation
et de Regularite) phase, a test of orienteering skills for
riders as they navigate their way over the varied terrain
for up to 45kms. Sunday gives way to the Control of Gaits
(Matrisse des Allures) phase, a test of skill and control
for both horse and rider, and finally the event will draw
to a close with the PTV (the Parcours en Terrain Varie) in
which competitors tackle various obstacles ranging from jumps,
banks and ditches to tests of skill such as opening and closing
a gate on horseback.
Head of BHS Competitions, Rob Jones, said “This weekend
should prove to be a very exciting and fun event. It is great
to see such a large entry in this relatively new sport, and
I wish everyone taking part the best of luck.”
Spectators are very welcome to attend the event, with Sunday
being the recommended highlight. Entry is free.
