The British Horse Society and Forestry Commission Wales sign
concordat
History was made yesterday (21 July) at the Royal Welsh Show
as The British Horse Society (BHS) and the Forestry Commission
Wales signed a concordat to strengthen the collaboration between
the two organisations in promoting responsible equestrian
access to Welsh Assembly Government Woodlands.
Environment, Planning & Countryside Minister Carwyn Jones
witnessed the signing of the concordat by BHS Vice Chairman
Helen Manns, and Forestry Commission Director Simon Hewitt
which, linking in with the Wales Tourist Board strategy for
horse riding in Wales ‘Saddling up for Success’,
has the potential to generate
£27 million every year to the Welsh economy, and secure
the future of Wales as an international destination for horse
riding.
BHS Vice Chairman Helen Manns said, “This concordat
endorses the further development of the relationship between
the BHS and the Forestry Commission Wales. The BHS in Wales
works constantly to improve access to safer off-road riding
routes in the Principality, and the Forestry Commission are
helping to get riders off roads and onto safer routes.”
