Brogan win again in Superstock as Crutchlow podiums in Superbikes
Liverpool’s Steve Brogan extended his lead in the Metzeler
National Superstock 1000 championship with another win, taking
his lead in the series to 40 points. In the Fuchs-Silkolene
British Supersport series Steve took a battling sixth at the
super-fast Snetterton circuit to hang on to second in the
series. In the Bennetts British Superbike championship HM
Plant Honda riders Leon Haslam and Cal Crutchlow had a tough
day. Leon led most of the first race, but was bumped back
to fifth after he went straight on at a chicane, while Cal
suffered from a poor start but fought through to fourth. In
the second wet race, Cal hung on for third place while Leon
bagged fifth at the flag despite grip issues.

“I’m pretty disappointed to be honest. I was comfortably
in the lead in the first race but then just a couple of laps
from the end Shakey came through on me at the chicane and
I had to go straight on, that cost me all my positions basically.
Race two was a different story with the tyre issues we had
towards the end, but all we can do now is look forward. The
test at Cadwell is important on Wednesday so I’m looking
forward to it. It’s our first ‘real’ test
of the year and hopefully we should have some good weather.
HM Plant Honda are an experienced championship winning team
and we’ll use the time well to sort a few things out
in time for the next race at Mallory Park.”

RACE TWO: 3rd position
“I had a good race in the first outing but had to make
up from a poor start. I was something like fifth or sixth
and then got bumped further back so had to claw my way back
up. I think without that handicap there would have been a
chance of winning it to be honest, who knows? In the second
race the conditions were tricky and to be honest we’re
always going to be up against it with the Ducatis and their
traction control system, but we managed to get a podium so
it’s a big thank you to everyone at HM Plant Honda.
I’ve dropped a position to Leon Camier in the championship
which obviously I’m not happy with, but we’ve
still got a way to go and I’m now looking forward to
Mallory.”

“I never had the best of starts in Superstock so it
took me a couple of laps to get through the guys in front
of me. When I was closing in on Jon I broke the lap record
by about three tenths – which is very satisfying to
do by that amount round here. In Supersport I wasn’t
too chuffed with sixth, but it’s still more points.
I think from the start of the weekend it wasn’t going
to be a good track for us, but there’s a long way to
go in the series. Mallory will be better for the HM Plant
Honda CBR600RR I think and with no Superstock on the schedule
we can really concentrate on the bike and dial it in.”
Havier Beltran – HM Plant Honda team manager
“It’s a disappointing set of results as we wanted
podiums really. We can see that with the new CBR1000RR Fireblade
we just have a couple of pieces in the jigsaw to put in place
to get the thing right at the sharp-end. You can see that
if either Leon or Cal makes a mistake it’s hard for
them to claw their way back up, while Shakey’s package
allows him to do that. Honda and the team are 100% behind
the riders – we know they’re frustrated and want
to win and we know both of them can win races and championships.
We’re looking forward to a test at Cadwell Park on Wednesday
to try a few things to find those missing elements in time
for Mallory Park. In Superstock Steve did the job once more
and is now 40 points ahead. I think in Supersport it was going
to be difficult for Steve as he’s not been here on a
600 for nine years. He couldn’t get away with the lead
group but made the best of the action in the second group.
We’re looking forward to concentrating on Steve and
the CBR600RR at Mallory as Superstock will not be on the schedule.”
