HM Plant Honda men aiming for the top at Mallory Park
HM Plant Honda’s Cal Crutchlow and Leon Haslam are
separated by just a tenth of a second on the grid for tomorrow’s
Mallory Park races. The top ten positions in the Bennetts
British Superbike Championship are covered by just half a
second, showing just how close tomorrow’s two races
could be. Meanwhile in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport
championship, Steve Brogan is in 10th place for tomorrow’s
28-lap race, but the rider from Liverpool is confident that
he will be up at the front whatever the weather.
Leon Haslam – HM Plant Honda
British Superbike – Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade
5th position – 56.234s
“Yes it would be nice to be on the front row, but the
times are so close! I really need some results from Mallory
Park, so tomorrow is going to be important. We’ve got
to get a good start and hang in there for the full race distance
and see what happens. With everyone running at the same pace
it’s going to make for two, very interesting races.”
Cal Crutchlow – HM Plant Honda
British Superbike – Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade
4th position – 56.135s
“It’s good to continue our 100% record of front
row starts, it’s just a shame not to get pole for my
home race! I’ve been consistent and fast in all sessions
really, so that’s the main thing. It’s essential
around here to get a good start, especially as no-one is really
any faster than anyone else. It’s going to be a war
out there tomorrow: I’ve just got to get away well,
be consistent and see what happens at the end of the 30 laps.”
Steve Brogan – HM Plant Honda
British Supersport – Honda CBR600RR
10th position – 57.893s
“I’m not bothered about what the weather does
tomorrow to be honest! If it rains I think the wet will suit
me, as I was fastest in the wet session here. In the dry no
problems either, as although I’m 10th I’m not
far away from the leaders in time. I just need to get a good
start but I think it will be pretty close. I’ve not
been here for four years so the new chicane and Edwinas are
both new to me. Series leader Glen Richards knows this place
well and tested here in the week, but I’m looking for
a podium whatever happens.”
Havier Beltran – HM Plant Honda team manager
“Conditions have been good today and the grid in Superbikes
is so close – with half a second covering the top ten!
Leon and Cal have made some good progress today. You need
a good chassis around here as the bike is over on its side
for so much of the lap. Also you need good driveability in
the engine as you’re on and then off the power so much.
The guys have done well and we’re hoping for some good
results. Steve is concentrating on the HM Plant Honda CBR600RR
here at Mallory, as there’s no Superstock race and although
he’s not been here for four years he’s a quick
learner, even if his main championship rival knows the place
like the back of his hand. We’re hoping Steve has a
good race tomorrow and bags some important points.”
