Glasgow Grand Prix - Finals.
Great Britain and Romania topped the medal table at the Glasgow
Grand Prix with both nations claiming two Gold, one Silver
and one Bronze Medal.
For Britain Beth Tweddle was victorious on Floor and Marissa
King on Vault. Louis Smith claimed Pommel Horse Silver, and
Kristian Thomas Bronze on Floor.
GRAND PRIX GOLD FOR MARISSA KING, GBR
Vault
Marissa King, GBR Tsukahara 1½, second vault Handspring
piked front ½, 14.237, easily taking her first Grand
Prix victory and GOLD.
Eniko Koscsmaros, HUN, with excellent positioning off the
table (Yurchenco 1½ - R/O½ turn tuck front somersault),
14.037, SILVER.
Maryna Kostillchenko, UKR, the 2004 Junior European Bars
Bronze medallist proved that she can certainly vault, (straight
Tsukahara, Handspring straight front ½), 13.825, BRONZE.
Bars
Beth Tweddle rarely finds herself lost mid routine on Bars
but in Glasgow she was well and truly using the get out clause.
Tweddle worked to pull the routine together but the damage
was sealed when the she fell to her knees on the dismount
14.025 and out of the medals.
World AA silver medallist Steliana Nistor was the first up
and exhibited her new combination (Maloney - shoot ½
- Ray) Nistor 15.200, GOLD.
Dariya Zgoba, UKR, brought beauty and style to the bars.
Performing in and out of shapes with immaculate ease and eye-catching
flexibility, 15.05, SILVER.
Krystina Palesova, CZE, another beautiful expression of Bars,
15.00 BRONZE.

FLOOR
Tomas Sepulveda, CHI, double Arabian piked, whip triple twist
punch 1 1/4 front, 2 1/2 punch front half, 2 1/2 twisting
front to close, 15.8 off a 16.4 start value. GOLD.
Kosmidis Eleftherious, GRE, double twisting double straight,
twisting combo, 1 3/4 straight Arabian and full in back out,
15.6 SILVER.
Kristian Thomas, GBR, a high tucked double Arabian nailed
to the floor was an impressive dismount to sound routine,
2 1/2 to front half, twisting combo to 1 3/4 front roll out,
double twist, 15.35. BRONZE.
Pommels
Daniel Popescu, ROM, a routine of exception style and quality
in a simple design, 2 flops, Wu, travels, 15.6. GOLD.
Louis Smith, GBR, well presented exercise with shear half
turn, full spindle, 3 cross support travels, triple Russian
and dismount pirouette travel in handstand, 15.425. SILVER.
Saso Bertoncelj, SLO, a tight swing with a neat Kehr 360
degrees (one arm full spin on one handle), 15.3. BRONZE.

Yuri Van Gelder, NED, roll to half lever cross, rise to Maltese,

GOLD FOR BETH TWEDDLE
Floor
A testament to a true champion often resides in the ability
to work through the hard times and come out fighting. No statement
could better describe Beth Tweddle than this. With ambitious
tumbles piked double Arabian and a nailed 2½ punch
front layout, Tweddle. 14.550. GOLD.
Nicole Pechancova, CZE. In a final where the gymnasts found
it hard to stay on their feet, Pechancova rose to the occasion
with style and a beautiful 3½ spin, 13.650. SILVER.
Romanians Daniela Druncea and Steliana Nistor shared the
Bronze medal. Nistor would have placed higher if not for an
ill judged opening double layout mount (hands down). Druncea
crammed in 6 tumble passes, triple twist (out of bounds),
and full twisting double back. Both 13.625. BRONZE.
Beam
Artistic, virtuous and a class apart; Lyudmila Grebenkova
delivered a Russian master class. Switch leap - full twisting
flick, Omelianchik and beautiful jumps and spins. 15.475.
GOLD.
Elyse Hopfner - Hibbs. Superb and risky combinations, free
cartwheel - layout - layout, Illusion, switch leap - free
round off to score 15.300. SILVER.
Dariya Zgoba, a broken connection between a high front somersault
and the subsequent sheep jump, lowered Zgobas start value.
