British Tumblers leave their mark at the World Cup in Sofia

Current British Tumbling Champion Laura Houson (Wakefield G.C.) won a significant, first ever World Cup victory in her career, at the renowned tournament named after the astronaut Alexander Alexandrov, held at the Bulgarian capital Sofia, on 22/23rd June 2007. Laura’s overall score was 66.60pts.

The Silver medal went to the 2006 World Cup Final Bronze medalist Anna Terenia (BLR), 65.90 pts, and the Bronze, to Samantha Palmer (Lynx G.C.), the British 2006 European Champion and World Cup Final winner (65.20 pts).

“For Laura to win this competition was fantastic, especially when she became Junior European Champion in 2004 at the same venue and the same track. Great experience for her, which will be very beneficial for the World Championships in Quebec (CAN) in November! I am also very happy to see Sam Palmer on the road to recovery having made the Podium once again in Sofia”, said British National Coach in Tumbling Craig Lawther.

The Chinese Wang Jiexu won the Men’s Tumbling (CHN), 79.10 pts, followed by his young teammate Li Zhenqiu (CHN), 75.40 pts. (Silver) and Jozef Wadecki (POL), 74.20 pts. (Bronze).

The British Charlie Burrows (GBR) from Pinewood G.C. took the 4th place, 71.50 pts, just beating the current European Champion Tagir Murtazaev (RUS), 71.40 pts, (fifth)

Following a mistake in the preliminaries the other British tumbler in Sofia, Michael Barnes (GBR), Wakefield G.C., finished just outside the Finals, 9th place.
