THE LAST POST - Europeans 2007
SO SO CLOSE
The
European Championships in Amsterdam saw Beth Tweddle, defending
champion on Asymmetric Bars, withdraw to protect her chances
of retaining her World crown in September as she recovers
from a shoulder injury. But Beth being Beth she had to have
a real go at winning something and her FLOOR exercise was
stunning, the audience thought so but the B jury perhaps did
not have artistry in mind when making the final adjudication.
Beth’s routine was everything that the balance of ART
and DIFFICULTY demands; after all it is ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS.
FLOOR
GOLD. Vanessa Ferrari, ITA, double double tucked, full in
back out, triple twist with bent legs, 1 1/2 t straight full,
double pike, 15.4 from a 16.3 start, I saw little choreography
and a lot of arm waving, outrageous.
SILVER, Beth Tweddle, GBR, double Arabians piked and tucked,
back 2 1/2 to straight front full, superb landings and highly
theatrical, (Beth and Alina are artistic gymnasts), 15.25.
BRONZE. Alina Kozich, UKR, beautifully choreographed, handspring
double front, front double twist to straight front, back 1
1/2 to front full, 2 1/2 twist, 15.05.
WHATS FAIR SHOULD BE SEEN TO BE FAIR..
GBR can be proud as the team return from the 2007 European
Championships, 7 Finals and TWO SILVER medals.
Questions may be asked why the Women’s B jury were
so light on Ferrari in the floor final and why the Men’s
A jury had to intervene in the pommels final to “moderate”
Louis Smiths score resulting in a drop from the judges initial
3rd to fourth. There were no faults in the scoring parameters.
But the rules allow the A jury to “moderate” and
the judging commission must be sure that the resulting perception
is not more “meddling” than “moderating”.
No one questions the honesty of the judges but after the Sydney
debacle this last form of intervention should perhaps be closed.
The judges decision must be final and not open to “moderation”
under any circumstances. Otherwise why have a judging panel
at all?
WELL DONE TEAM GBR 7 FINALS 2 SILVER MEDALS
