Smooth Podium Training for the British Women’s Team
in Aarhus
While the organisers of the 39th World Championships in
Artistic Gymnastics for Men and Women in Aarhus (DEN) were
preparing the last details of the Opening Ceremony to be held
on Friday, 13 October 2006, in the evening, the Women drawn
in the last three Subdivisions took the floor at NRGi arena
for their Podium Training.
The British Team, led by Beth Tweddle (21), twice World Bronze
medallist (2003 and 2005) and Current European Champion on
A. Bars, tested the competition floor as part of Subdivision
9 (out of 10), together with the gymnasts from Switzerland,
Hungary and Czechoslovakia. They left the impression of a
homogenous, well-prepared and confident Team.
First year Seniors Aisling Williams and Emma White (16),
relible Melanie Roberts (18), lanky Lynette Lisle (17) and
Olivia Bryl (18) and “Miss Double Layout”, Leigh
Rogers (17), do not seem to have a weak apparatus. All they
need, as everybody else taking part in these Championships
(36 Women’s Teams, 236 Individuals altogether), is to
hit all their routines at the Qualifications on Tuesday, 17
October 2006, between 10:30am and 12:00 local time.
At the previous World Championships, in Anaheim (USA) 2003,
the British gymnasts were faultless on 20 out of 20 routines
and finished in the 9th place in the final Team Ranking, thus
setting a new record for British Gymnastics.
“Not bad, not bad…” said seemingly satisfied
British Technical Director for Women Adrian Stan after the
Training. “And now we a going to decide the order of
the performances in the Qualifications”.
