Ryan Bradley
Ryan Bradley (22) from Earls School of Gymnastics injured
his ankles during the first day of the Men’s Podium
Training at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in
Aarhus, Denmark and will be replaced by the reserve gymnast
Oliver Kneen (21) from City of Leeds.
The GBR Team started the session well on P. Bars. Then continued
on High Bar with a small incident occurring (Adam Cox, 19,
from City of Leeds, removed a finger nail, “which shouldn’t
be major disaster”, according to Technical Director
for Men, Eddie Van Hoof).
On the Team’s third apparatus, the Floor, Bradley suffered
an ankles injury due to landing short from a double layout.
As a precaution, he was taken to the hospital for X-rays (result
still unclear at 19:00 hours local time).
Oliver Kneen
“At the moment we are looking for possibility of bringing
our Reserve gymnast Oliver Kneen, just in case, said Eddie
Van Hoof. Up until today the Team were looking good, reasonably
stable, hoping that they could do a clean, good job”
308 gymnasts, 59 National Federations, 44 Teams and 5 Mixed
Groups are set to compete in the Qualification rounds of the
Championships, which will start on Saturday, 14 October at
9:00am local time. The GB Team will compete in Subdivision
3 (out of 9), together with Portugal, Algeria and Kazakhstan,
between 14:30 and 16:45 local time.
With the first day of the Podium Training still going on
(up to 22.15pm local time), the pundits in Aarhus already
predict that the battle for the Gold will be between
the 2004 Olympic Champion Japan and the current, 2003 World
Champions China. They also stress on the fact that the depth
of the men’s field seems amazing!
