39th World Championships in Artistic Gymnastics (Men & Women)

British Gymnastics are delighted to announce the Men’s and Women’s Artistic gymnastics Teams that will shortly depart for Aarhus (DEN) to compete in the World Championships, 13-21 October 2006.

The Women’s and the Men’s Teams feature a very strong group of gymnasts with Beth Tweddle (City of Liverpool) and Ross Brewer (Sutton GC) leading the way.

For Beth, Britain’s greatest ever gymnast, the World Championships represent another competition where she can aim for victory on A. Bars against the world’s finest gymnastic talent. Having already won two Bronze World Championships medals (Anaheim 2003 and Melbourne 2005), Beth will be hoping for even better in Aarhus.

Three times British Men’s Champion Ross Brewer meanwhile will be aiming to continue his good form that saw him lead England to a team Bronze in the 2006 Commonwealth games.

The Women’s Team features a young group of gymnasts who have all developed hugely over the last year. Melanie Roberts and Aisling Williams, both from the City of Liverpool, contributed to the GB Teams 7th place finish in this year’s European Championships in Volos (GRE). Welsh Champion Lynette Lisle (Barry), 2006 British Vault Champion Emma White (Huntingdon Olympic GC) and UK Schools Games all-around champion Olivia Bryl (Barry) will also be looking to impress on the world stage.

The British Women’s Team took 9th place at the last World Championships in Anaheim (USA) in 2003 and their target is to keep their place between the World’s elite.

For the Men, Commonwealth Games gymnasts Ryan Bradley (Earls School), Adam Cox (City of Leeds) and Luke Folwell (Huntingdon Olympic) will be expecting to produce there best and finish in the top 24 teams in order to participate in the next year’s World Championships in Stuttgart (GER), where only the top 12 Teams will gain Olympic Qualification for Beijing 2008. Sam Hunter (Notts GC) member of the 4th place Junior European Team, Volos (GRE) and Danny Lawrence (South Essex) European Senior Team gymnast complete the GB’s ever-improving men’s team.
