2006 British Rhythmic Gymnastics Open Apparatus Championships
Meadow Leisure Centre, Burton-on-Trent
Saturday & Sunday, 20 & 21 May May 2006
The Championships is supported by LG Direct Drive Washing
Machines.
First
held in 1987 and added to the competition calendar to give
the British gymnasts another opportunity to compete on the
domestic stage, the British Open Apparatus Championships developed
into one of the most attractive events in Rhythmic Gymnastics
in the country.
Because of the unexpectedly large number of the entries this
year, the Championships will be held over two days (Saturday,
20 May & Sunday 21 May), instead of one day, as in the
previous years.

“As a result of the tremendous support given to us by
‘LG Direct Drive Washing Machines’, this event
will mark a place in the history of RG in Great Britain. It
will be the first Rhythmic Gymnastics event to receive television
coverage for 12 years, as “Tilling Productions”
will film our top gymnasts for Sky’s TV programme series
“Sport Nation”, said the RG Technical Committee
President Joan Black.
The Championships is termed “Open” as Junior
and Senior gymnasts could compete against each other.
This year 91 gymnasts from all over the country will challenge
the titles in the various apparatus (rope, ball, hoop, clubs
and ribbon) in all the seven age groups (Seniors, Juniors,
U13, U12, U11, U10 and U9).
Without doubt, the attention will be focused on the
top four British Seniors:
Hannah Chappell (Coventry), 2005 British Overall Champion
and 2006 Commonwealth Games finalist,
Heather Mann (Southview), many times British International,
also finalist in Melbourne 2006,
Rachel Ennis (Hillingdon), the most experience World and European
British gymnast and Frankie Jones (Nene Valley), 2005 British
Overall runner-up.
These leading gymnasts, along with a number of very talented
and quickly progressing youngsters competing in Burton, will
demonstrate breathtaking skills in handling the apparatus,
elegance and imagination in the sport that enjoys Olympic
recognition since 1984.
Competition will begin at 10am on both days.
Saturday U12/U13/JNR & SNR, Sunday U11/U10/U9.
