On the road towards the 2006 World Championships
Following a very busy first half of the 2006 competition
season (Commonwealth Games, European Championships and a number
of other Internationals events), the elite British gymnasts
are now looking forward to the World Championships in Aarhus
(DEN), 13/21 October.
After a short summer break, the first “check point”
of their preparation, will be two intriguing Friendly Internationals:
Women: Great Britain v Romania (3 times Olympic and 7 times
World Team Champions) in Newcastle on 26/27 August 2006 and
Men: Great Britain v Denmark - Ipswich on 26 August 2006
GB v ROM – Women
Adrian Stan, Women’s Technical Director:
“This event will also serve as the 1st Control competition
for the selection of our World Team. Following the retirement
of the 2004 triple Olympic Gold medallist Catalina Ponor,
it is curious to see what will be the line-up of our guests.
As for the GB Team we have invited Beth Tweddle, Lynette Lisle,
Aisling Williams, Imogen Cairns, Melanie Roberts, Amy Nunes
and Rosalie Hutton, with non travelling reserve Emma White.”

Sunday, 27 Aug - Individual Apparatus Finals. Doors Open at
1.00pm

GB v DEN- Men
Eddie Van Hoof, Men’s Technical Director:
“This competition will provide us with a good opportunity
to test our gymnasts against solid opposition and help foster
good working relationship with the hosts of the World Championships.
A further International Training camp and competition in September
is to follow, in order to finalise the Team selection and
preparation for Aarhus”.
