GBR v Denmark Men's International
The Men prepare to take on the world!
As part of the Men’s Artistic preparation for the World
Championships in Aarhus in October 2006 the GBR team will
be hosting an International Team Competition against the Championship
hosts, Denmark.
This event will feature some of Britain’s top gymnasts
and future stars who are all aiming for medal success in Aarhus
and beyond. Three times British Champion Ross Brewer (Sutton
G.C.) raised his game considerably during the Commonwealth
games in Melbourne and will certainly be looking to perform
to a high standard at this event.
Up and coming stars such as Louis Smith (Huntingdon Olympic
Club) the Commonwealth Champion on Pommel Horse will also
be keen to show that they can compete against a competitive
Danish squad.
Technical Director of MAG, Eddie Van Hoof is excited about
this forthcoming event: “ this competition will provide
us with a good opportunity to test our gymnasts against solid
opposition and help foster good relationships with the organizing
country”.
The gymnasts will be competing to try and cement their places
in the final GBR squad for the World Championships and therefore
the pressure is on to produce. The competition will be the
highlight of a four day training camp that the MAG team will
undertake to hone their skills as each gymnast knows that
time is running out to impress the coaches.
Of particular interest to spectators will be the inclusion
of the Men’s Tumbling European Bronze Medallist, Michael
Barnes (Wakefield Gym Club) who is making the cross over to
MAG for the first time in Ipswich. It will be interesting
to see how Michael progresses as he aims to make a name for
himself on the vault and floor apparatus.
The twelve man GBR squad will be joined by Yevgen Gryshenko
and Ruslan Panteleymonov (both Hinckley Gymnastics Club),
two Ukrainian gymnasts who will perform as hors concur.
The Denmark team will be hoping to put on a competent show
as they aim to demonstrate their countries gymnastic enthusiasm.
The forthcoming World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in
Aarhus will be the first time the country has hosted such
an event. Both men’s teams will need to be in top form
as the Aarhus games represent a crucial first step towards
qualification for the Olympics in Beijing 2008.
Supported by Milano Pro-Sports, Continental Sports, Venturelli
and Tolway.
