Rhythmic Gymnastics News

Last year’s Junior Champion Hannah Chappell grabs the Senior Rhythmic title

The 2005 British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships for Seniors, Junior, U12 and U10 gymnasts was marked by the announcement of the substantial sponsorship from LG Electronics securing a better future for Rhythmic Gymnastics leading to the 2012 Olympic Games.

The 2004 British Junior Champion Hannah Chappell, from the City of Coventry RG Club, won the Senior Overall title putting together a score of 52.050 for her routines with Rope, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. She was followed by another Senior-debutant, Francesca Jones from Nene Valley (51.050)- Silver, and Heather Mann (Southview), 48.525, Bronze.

The 2004 British Champion Hannah Walker from Coventry, who retired last January, to take up her studies in Dance and Art, said: “I am extremely pleased that the British Senior title remained in Coventry and I think the most decisive factor for this is our irreplaceable coach Marion Sands. I watched the competition with interest and I find that there has been a great improvement in the gymnasts across all the age groups, especially in the Under 10 years old, and the former Juniors who have made their debut in the Senior level (Hannah and Frankie Jones). For me the routine of the day was Frankie’s routine with Clubs - good choreography, precise and clean and excellent expression!”

Very impressive routines with Ball and Clubs were presented by Heather Mann (Southview), while the participation of the elite Senior gymnast Rachel Ennis (Hillingdon, 4th overall), only three weeks after a serious car accident, deserves acknowledgment and praise.
