“Blue Peter” loves Gymnastics!
A
crew of the BBC TV, “Blue Peter” Children’s
Programme arrived in Melbourne on Fri, 18 Nov. to cover the
38th World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
From the airport, straight to the Rod Laver Arena - former
gymnast and popular young presenter Matthew Baker did his
first interview with Louis Smith (16), from Huntingdon Gym
Club, 2004 Junior European Champion on Pommels, who is the
youngest male competitor at the Championships.
“I am so excited to be here”, said Matthew, “
to be in the training halls and see these extraordinary gymnast
eye to eye is just unbelievable. I can hardly wait for the
competition to begin”.
Meanwhile, after the GB Team’s afternoon training session,
the host-broadcasters from the Australian Channel 7 filmed
an interview with Beth Tweddle.
BBC wanted to film the team during lunch and followed on
the bus filming the gymnast as they talked to fellow performers.
The closeness of the cameras and the lay back attitude of
the presenter Matt Baker were very good for the group. They
took the opportunity to relax and really started to come together
as a team.
At the dinner provided by BBC British Gymnastics made Matt
Baker an "Honorary Member" of the team and presented
him with a Team Jacket. BBC decided to film the presentation
for Blue Peter so we had to do it all again!
