STEADY START FOR AIRWAVES DUCATI AT THRUXTON
The Airwaves Ducati team performed well in practice at round
two of the British Superbike championship today. Shane Byrne
finished the day with a 2nd and 4th place and Leon Camier
secured a 7th and 12th.
With windy conditions at the Hampshire circuit, the Airwaves
Ducati riders completed an impressive 112 laps in the two
50 minute practices. Shane’s fastest time of the day,
1:15.970 placed him top for much of the second session but
he was pushed into 4th in the final 15 minutes. Leon Camier
completed more laps throughout the day than anyone else in
the field, with his quickest lap of 1:17.371 coming on lap
5 of 30 in second practice.
Following a tough day on the track Leon commented; “I
have had better days and I am looking to improve significantly
tomorrow. I have struggled today and physically have not felt
happy. I think I was trying too hard and it just wasn’t
happening for me. Tomorrow I need to chill out and ride my
Airwaves Ducati the way I know I can.”
Shane was positive about his performance saying, “I
feel practice has gone well for me today. I have done a lot
of laps and worked hard with my Pirelli tyres, including trying
out some different compounds. There were a few spots of rain
this afternoon which stopped me in the middle of a race run
but I was pleased with how the Airwaves Ducati was feeling.
I know a few people have gone faster than me this afternoon
but I’m pleased with my race pace and I am confident
we will put in a good performance in qualifying tomorrow.”
Qualifying for round two of the British Superbike championship
starts at 14.15pm tomorrow, Saturday April 19th.
