AIRWAVES DUCATI PURSUING POINTS AT PENULTIMATE ROUND
Airwaves Ducati return to the track this weekend following
a four week break, for round 12 of the Bennetts British Superbike
Championship at Donington Park. Leon Haslam is currently 3rd
in the championship, with Gregorio Lavilla 19 points behind
in 4th.
The team achieved an excellent result at the 2.5 mile Derbyshire
circuit last year, with a first and third place in race one
and a second and third in race two; a performance that needs
to be matched on Sunday in order to secure essential championship
points as the season draws to a close.
Having achieved his 2nd win of the season at Cadwell Park
Leon is confident for a good performance at his home track.
“I’m really looking forward it; it will be a tough
weekend as every weekend has been this year but I always get
such good support there as it is my local circuit. I have
a number of friends coming to watch and the atmosphere is
always great so I hope I can put in a performance to match
it.” His aims for this weekend are clear though, “I
am looking for an all out win, just as I was at Cadwell Park
where it worked in the first race but then I pushed too hard
in the 2nd. I can still catch Jonny Rea and Kiyonari in the
championship but in order to do that I need to win races and
that is what I will be aiming for.”
Gregorio Lavilla, who achieved a 7th and 3rd place in the
last round at Cadwell Park, has kept himself busy in the break
by completing ‘el Camino de Santiago’, a week
long 800km mountain bike ride across northern Spain. He is
looking forward to getting back on his motorbike saying, “I
like Donington, it is a good track for us but as usual we
will have to see what happens with the weather! The circuit
suits the Ducati and my riding style, as it is fast and flowing,
so I’m aiming to achieve some good points. I have nothing
to lose in terms of the championship, I am going to go out
there and enjoy the racing and do the best that I can. Our
rivals are getting stronger and stronger and there are more
and more people capable of winning races, but now that I am
fully recovered from my injury I will go out there motivated
and we will see what happens.”
Round 12 of the championship takes place on Sunday 23rd September
2007 at Donington Park.
