DOUBLE WIN FOR LAVILLA

Gregorio Lavilla took a brilliant double victory in the final round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch today. Leon Haslam completed the season with a 4th and 5th place finish.

In an exciting first race Greg was in 3rd position when the safety car was introduced for 3 laps. Following the restart he soon moved into the lead before pulling away to take the chequered flag and his first win of the day. Leon was challenging for the podium places for much of the 30 lap race but was unable to overtake Kiyonari and finished 4th.

A red flag early in race two resulted in a restart with Greg in 3rd and Leon in 7th. Having dropped to 6th off the start, Greg again moved through the field to take the lead on lap 12. He continued to push hard to take his second win of the day and his 21st since joining Airwaves Ducati. Leon again battled hard in the leading pack but could not pass Kiyonari and finished 5th.

Leon commented about his tough weekend; “I have been struggling all weekend and I am disappointed with my result today. However I have finished the season 3rd in the championship and I am the first Ducati and Dunlop rider, so I am pleased with that. I started today on the back foot following some issues we had in practice and qualifying; we sorted them in warm up but 0.1 seconds here is a huge difference. I would like to say huge thanks to the team, my mechanics, Airwaves, Dunlop and GSE Group. I have had a fantastic time with Airwaves Ducati and who knows what next year holds.”

Greg was delighted to end his season with a double win saying, “It is amazing to finish the year like this. I would like to thank all the fans and the team for their support. I will take such happy memories away from today, I love to see the fans enjoying the victories, the UK is a second home to me and today’s win is for them and the team, they are all fantastic.”
