AIRWAVES DUCATI AIMING TO END ON A HIGH
Airwaves Ducati’s 2007 season draws to a close this
weekend, in round 13 of the Bennetts British Superbike championship
at Brands Hatch.
Leon Haslam and Gregorio Lavilla head to GSE Racing’s
local circuit in 3rd and 4th place respectively in the championship
standings. It is the second time the team have visited Brands
Hatch this season; they started their championship campaign
there in April when Gregorio Lavilla took two race wins on
the longer GP track. Having achieved 22 podium finishes, 9
race wins and 17 front row starts this year, the team are
confident that they can end the season on a high this weekend,
on the shorter 1.2 mile Indy circuit.
Lying 4 points behind Jonathan Rea and a further 37 points
behind championship leader Ryuichi Kiyonari, Leon knows he
still has a chance to clinch the title with 50 points up for
grabs this weekend. Following his career first double win
in round 12 he is feeling confident.
“I’m really looking forward to this last round
especially after my double at Donington. There’s still
an outside chance of winning the championship and a possibility
of taking second place so I will be aiming for another double
win as anything could happen! Brands Hatch is a great track
to race at and there will be a great atmosphere for the last
race of the season; I just want to get there and get started
and hopefully continue this winning streak!”
Greg is confident for the last race of the year and wants
to end his season with a good performance.
“I enjoy racing at Brands Hatch; I prefer competing
on the longer track than the shorter one but I am still confident
that I can end the season well. I started this year by winning
there in the first round but we have had a difficult time
since then, now I want to end the season as we began. The
last race of the year is always exciting but it is also a
little sad as you know that when it’s over it will be
a long time before you will race and see the team again; I
will be aiming for a win for me and for the Airwaves Ducati
team.”
The 2007 Bennetts British Superbike title will be decided
on October 14th at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
